A&K receives 1st Stimulus Money from State for Highway Job

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act has given a boost to the State of Nevada and Northern Nevada Contractors. Nevada has received $201 Million dollars with $140 Million being awarded to the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT). With this money NDOT has signed contracts for $71 million mostly for construction on our local highways. Out of the stimulus money A and K was awarded the first bid for a nine mile resurfacing project on Inter State 80 in Pershing County.

Stewart Street Extension Project
With the widening and extension of North Stewart Street from East Williams Street (US Highway 50) to David Street and some side street roadway improvements. This project included aggregate base, curb and gutter, sidewalk, bituminous pavement, traffic signal modifications, and signing and striping improvements. Also completed was underground utility work including conduit for street lights and signal inter-tie, water mains, sanitary sewer and storm drains.

Love’s Parking Lot Expansion
Love’s Parking lot has been extended by 40,185 SF of new asphalt paving with curb, gutter and sidewalks. This work also included relocating the driveway entrance by 50 FT, removing and relocating NV Energy power vault, and moving a fire hydrant to accommodate the construction of 3 more fuel bays.

NDOT 3368
The Silver Springs Project (NDOT 3368) was removing existing culvert pipe and installing a triple reinforced concrete box culvert to help improve draining of the area during large rainstorms. We built a detour to divert traffic while installing a new triple box culvert. There were some miscellaneous drainage pipes extended and then installation of 29,000 tons of Type 2 asphalt followed by 10,000 tons of open grade asphalt. After completion of the asphalt portion, we finished the shoulder with about 18,000 tons of base.
